NYSOS is committed to promoting and representing the viewpoints of the ophthalmologic community before state legislative, regulatory and executive agencies. In a given year we might track and monitor upward of a hundred bills that can directly impact patients, ophthalmologists or the physician community as a whole. We advance our advocacy agenda in a number of ways including:

• Disseminating memoranda or position papers to key decision makers
• Helping to foster relationships between member physicians and their elected officials
• Commenting on proposed legislation or regulations
• Providing testimony before legislative committees or regulatory bodies

Accomplishing our advocacy goals requires the active participation of ophthalmologists in all practice arrangements and from all regions of the state. NYSOS urges all eye physicians to:

• Develop a relationship with their State Senate and Assembly Representatives
• Make a contribution to EyePAC
• Educate patients about important eye health issues
• Call the Society to volunteer to get more involved
